My name is Sam and I’m the owner and founder of MVMNT Christian Stores. As we celebrate our new store I wanted to share with you a little about why we are here.
I have spent my entire adult life working in Christian bookstores. If you’ve shopped for a Bible, a WOW album, communion supplies or a Beth Moorestudy in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area the past two decades, chances are you got it at a store I was working at. I managed Stores for Berean Christian Stores, Family Christian Stores and Lifeway Christian Stores. Unfortunately, due to the changing times, those Christian store chains no longer exist.
While working at Lifeway, I heard that they were going to shutter their entire retail operation. It was then that God began to put MVMNT on my heart. I’ve seen so many stories of how cities and communities today have nowhere to go to get Bibles and Christian resources. Yes, the internet exists and always will. But the internet shopping experience doesn’t give you advice and recommendations that you know you can trust. It doesn’t listen to your story. And it doesn’t pray for you nor bring people together. How could Gilbert and Mesa not have a Christian store? How could we move forward and not have a spiritual resource oasis where the Word of God was at the center and people KNEW that it was a place where they could gather and meet with Him in a deeper way?
I connected with my family. My wife is a teacher. I have two amazing sons. We wanted to make sure that God was directing any decision we made. To open a brick and mortar bookstore in today’s retail environment is no small decision.
Is this what He wants us to do? If so, how do we do it? What would it look like? Where should it be? What do we even call it?
We decided to call it MVMNT, because if this is going to work it needs to be something different. It can’t just be a store with Christian products in it. God has to be at the center and it has to be a partnership with YOU. It has to be, well, a movement. MVMNT is a family-owned and operated small business; we are doing this as a step of faith. At the center of this MVMNT are three things: Faith, Unity and Eternity. Faith in God guides all we do; Unity as brothers and sisters in Christ moves us forward; And our eyes are on the final goal, Eternity with Him.
We decided to call it MVMNT, because if this is going to work it needs to be something different. It can’t just be a store with Christian products in it. God has to be at the center and it has to be a partnership with YOU. It has to be, well, a movement. MVMNT is a family-owned and operated small business; we are doing this as a step of faith. This entire project has been a labor of love filled with blood, sweat and tears. Somehow it has come together. By the grace and strength of God we have made it here and we continue to ramp up. It is our heart's desire to get the chance to know you and hear your story. What is it that makes you stop and shop in a bookstore? When did you get your first Bible? How is God moving in your life today? And, as we get to know each other, how can we partner to spread this MVMNT of God to our community? How can we tell HIS story together and help change this increasingly broken and divided world?
